First and foremost, unraveling spot is an ideology, not a place. It was designed by Jade and Liz as a way to bring together independent therapists and clients in the work of healing a little differently than mainstream therapy. Here, systemic factors, somatic wisdom, and community are at the core of everything we do together.
Whatever reason brings you to therapy, unraveling spot has therapists who will meet you with compassion and acceptance. We will help you recognize and connect to the supports you need to help you in the ways you want to be helped. Our therapists recognize that the way we move around in the world and the experiences we have are deeply impacted and orchestrated by what was happening in the world we are raised in. Recognizing this, our therapists do their own work to undo harmful concepts that have been baked into the fabric of our world as well as respecting the lived experience and expertise of marginalized and oppressed groups and people.
At unraveling spot, practitioners celebrate the wisdom of the body and honor the work each body does to survive and thrive despite the challenges we face every day. We recognize the rich history of healing practices in Indigenous cultures around the world, past, present, and future. Some of these paractices were devalued or even criminalized in the process of colonization, while other practices were appropriated (stolen), decontextualized (removed from their indigenous wisdom and roots) by western healing practitioners, and developed into many of the healing methods therapists use today. While we can't go back and repair the damage, we can honor and respect the source of the knowlege that birthed modern therapeutic practices while working toward reindiginizing modern healing practices by listening to, learning from, and honoring indigenous wisdom. We believe that engaging in healing work within this context is part of the greater collective work of building stong interconnected communities of people who have the capacity and infrastructure to support and care for each other and the land as the original peoples of this land have done for time immemorial.
We aim to create a safer therapeutic space for people with marginalized identities while understanding that the practice of therapy has not traditionally been a safe place; There is still much work to be done. We understand the intersection of privilege and power and work to address these imbalances in therapy. We are imperfect people in an imperfect world doing what we can to work with each other to improve each other's circumstances with accountability, humility, and respect.
If this ideology resonate with you, consider working with one of our therapists. Unraveling Spot is building a network of practitioners, recognizing that each therapist has their own, unique ways of practicing and preferred areas of practice, while ensuring they share this collective viewpoint. Review our therapist profiles and set up a consultation call to see if one of us is a good fit for your unraveling spot.
